Watercolourist and artist in mixed media; born and died in Bideford, Devon; studied at the Art School there, then at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art, gaining a bronze medal for figure composition; there she met the artist Mary Stella Edwards, with whom she shared the rest of her life; exhibited and painted landscapes together throughout Britain and worked jointly on historical models and dioramas, Ackland doing the figures, Edwards the settings; lived in Bucks Mills in Devon and Staines, Middlesex.
