Painter of landscapes and town scenes, illustrator and illuminator; born in Brighton (4 November 1885); studied art at the Royal College of Art and obtained his diploma in 1910; during World War I served in the Royal Artillery on the Western Front and made numerous sketches of the war; he was Head of the Bath School of Art, Principal of the Derby School of Arts and Crafts, and Principal of the Leeds and Sheffield Colleges of Art; he was Associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy; lived in London.
