Functions, occupations and activities
Born in Walworth (5 November 1843), son of a wheelwright; worked in his father's workshop (until age 24); studied art at Lambeth Art School (1861) and at the Royal Academy schools (1864); worked for Doulton until his death (from 1867); produced terracotta panels, especially of religious scenes, including for the reredos of York Minster (with George Edward Street) and at the Guards Chapel, St James'; also produced statues; married Alice Digweed (1881); lived at Kew; died on a train between Kew and Lambeth (11 September 1913)
