Functions, occupations and activities
Born at Greenwich (2 March 1812) of a family of Huguenot descent; educated at the Royal Academy Schools; articled to George Legg, architect; assistant to George Porter; set up his own architectural practice (1838); travelled and sketched on the continent with Ewan Christian; director of the French Hospital, Hackney; designed several country houses and many churches, in the neo-Gothic style; married Harriet Bayne (1835) and had six sons; died at his house in Hampstead (2 May 1873); buried in Highgate cemetery
