Worked as a topographical draughtsman, travelling throughout Great Britain and in France; produced some of the earliest watercolours in England; published topographical works illustrated by himself; associated with the foundation of the Society of Painters in Water-colours; exhibited at the Royal Academy until 1807, when he was found guilty of exhibiting works not his own and expelled, but recommenced exhibiting (until 1814); died in London (1822)
