Born in Norwich; worked as an architect restoring and building churches in Gothic revival style, and in association with Barnard, Bishop & Barnard of Norwich, iron and brass foundry (from 1859); influential in introducing Japanese style to furnishings; designed interiors for 1 Holland Park, and 49 Princes Gate, Kensington; became mentally ill (1877); died in Norwich asylum (1881)
