| GB/NNAF/P2801 Blomfield, Sir Reginald Theodore (1856-1942) Knight Gender: Male Functions, occupations and activities Born at Bow vicarage, Devon (20 December 1856); educated at Haileybury (from 1869) and at Exeter College Oxford (graduated 1879); entered the architectural office of his uncle, Sir A W Blomfield (1881-1883); elected Associate of the Royal Institue of British Architects, but resigned over a dispute (1891); studied at the Royal Academy school of architecture; travelled in Europe (for three months in 1883); set up his own practice (1883); married Frances Burra (1886) and had two sons and one daughter; elected to the Art Workers' Guild (1887) but resigned (1903); wrote articles on historical architecture, and was on the committee with oversaw "Architectural Review" (1901-1905); also wrote books; elected Associate of the Royal Academy (1905) and Member of the Royal Academy (1914), also professor of architecture at the Royal Academy (1906-1910); honorary Fellow of Exeter College Oxford (1906); Fellow of the Royal Institue of British Architects (1906) and President (1912-1914); worked for the Imperial War Graves commission (1918-1927) and designed the Menin Gate at Ypres; knighted (1919); member of the Fine Art Commission, but resigned due to a dispute over proposed architectural changes in Carlton House Terrace; member of the executive committee of the British School at Rome and first chairman of its faculty of architecture; died in the house he built for himself (1896) at Frognal, Hampstead (27 December 1946).
