| GB/NNAF/P129 Adam, Robert (1728-1792) Gender: Male Functions, occupations and activities Born at Kirkcaldy; educated at Edinburgh University; travelled in Italy (1754-1762); elected Fellow of the Royal Society and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries; architect to the king and queen (1762), but resigned when elected MP for Kinross (1768); architect, with his brothers, to the Adelphi, London (begun 1769); worked with his brother James on projects including Kenwood and Osterley houses, and published "Work on architecture" (1773-1778); also a landscape painter; died at his house in Albemarle Street, London (3 March 1792); buried in Westminster Abbey.
